Motorcycle Insurance : FAQs
Do I have coverage for my optional equipment? You’ll want to double check that non-standard add-ons, like a custom seat or paint job, are covered. Look for a policy that has a set amount of equipment coverage included in your comprehensive coverage. Many policies also offer the option to purchase additional, higher limits.
What about my safety gear? Safety apparel is any clothing designed to minimize injury. Typically, damages to safety apparel will have coverage, however theft may not.
Is there a first accident waiver? Many carriers reward safe driving by waiving the first accident for drivers with a good history! Generally, you must be insured for a certain amount of time and have no at-fault accidents.
Are higher liability limits available? Liability coverage comes into play when you are found responsible for the injuries of another. These higher limits could be important when considering how quickly attorney fees and other litigation costs can rise. Many people try to match their motorcycle limits to their auto limits, if possible for their budget.
What discounts are available? Most carriers offer motorcycle-specific discounts if you take a safety course, have an airbag or anti-lock brakes, or are a preferred operator. Additionally, you can consider keeping all your policies with only one carrier. This way you’ll qualify for a multi-policy discount and it will also streamline your insurance policies!
